Winemaker Notes

The grapes are de-stemmed and pressed before undergoing primary fermentation for about 10 days in stainless steel tanks. Our Pinot Grigio spends 4 months in stainless steel tanks before being bottled, and we use bentonite for fining the wine to remove any unwanted colloids. The wine is filtered before bottling.

Production Notes

This vintage was hand harvested from late August through mid-September in Bassa Atesina Valley, Alto Adige. The vineyard sits at 600 feet elevation in an Alpine climate. The soil is limestone with high chalk content influenced by alluvial states. The vines are are between 5 and 20 years old and use both Guyot and Pergola vine training and pruning systems. The harvested grapes were notable for their sugar, acidity balance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pinot Grigio sweet or dry?

Dry. Luna Nuda Pinot Grigio has no residual sugar to speak of — what you’re tasting is bright golden apple and citrus, with a hint of alpine minerality from the high-elevation vineyards it’s grown in. Crisp and refreshing, not sweet.

What does Pinot Grigio taste like?

Think golden delicious apple and citrus, with just a touch of alpine air in the background — a light, savory edge that keeps it from tasting flat. Luna Nuda’s version, grown in Italy’s northernmost wine region, leans especially crisp.

Is Pinot Gris the same as Pinot Grigio?

Yes — same grape, two names. “Pinot Gris” is the French name, “Pinot Grigio” is Italian, and Italian-style versions like Luna Nuda’s tend to be lighter and crisper than their French counterparts, which often lean richer and rounder.

How do you pronounce Pinot Grigio?

“PEE-noh GREE-jee-oh.” No need to overthink it — just ask for it by name and enjoy the glass.

Should Pinot Grigio be served chilled?

Yes — aim for about 45 to 50°F, straight from the fridge. Too cold and you’ll mute the fruit; a few minutes out of the fridge before pouring brings the apple and citrus notes back to life.

What food pairs well with Pinot Grigio?

Lighter fare: seafood, salads, soft cheeses, or anything with a squeeze of lemon. It’s also easy to drink on its own — after work, before dinner, or alongside pretty much anything you’re not overthinking.

Where does Luna Nuda Pinot Grigio come from?

Alto Adige, Italy’s northernmost wine region, where the grapes are estate-grown and hand-harvested at Castelfeder Winery. The alpine climate and limestone soil are what give it that signature crisp, mineral edge.
